(03 Mar 2016)

We play our opening qualifier match in the Fred Daly trophy on 1 April, 2016 in Beaverstown G C. Paul Hickey is the man in charge of the 7-man team, in this event. We wish Paul and his team the very best of luck.

The Irish junior foursomes qualifying round is due to be played, in Black Bush G C on 20 June, this year. 4 of our elite golfers at under 18 level, will compete against the top junior golfers from around the country for the coveted first prize. Paul Hickey is at the helm for this team also. Again, we wish Paul and his charges the very best of luck, as they hopefully progress in this competition.

Malahide GC are drawn against Beaverstown GC in first round proper of the Leinster u 15 inter club match play competition 2016 to be played by 24 April. If successful in round 1, we will meet either, Portmarnock, Howth or The island in the second round, which has to be played before Sunday 15 May. Remember 2013? The year we won it previously. We wish all the lads who make up the 2016 panel the very best of luck. It’s a huge mountain to climb, however we did it before, so wouldn’t it be great to repeat that achievement. Donal Hughes and Martin Dunne will be in charge of the team and we wish them all the best.

We play our opening matches in the Fingal junior foursomes for the Andy Desmond Trophy on Tuesday 22 March 2016 in Howth GC. 16 (8 and 8) local clubs compete, in two different venues on 21 and 22 March 2016, from which 4 (2 and 2) clubs emerge to play in the semi-final and final on 29 march in Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links. Malahide GC contested the final in 2015, but were pipped by Portmarnock GC in “a really great final”. We wish the lads involved all the best in this event also.

Our opening match in The Fingal league is on 28 June in Portmarnock GC. The league runs for 8 weeks and matches are contested in a number of venues. It finishes on 15 August. Each match is singles stableford with 4 members per team. Maximum age under 19 on 1 January and maximum handicap 26, no minimum. This competition, last year ended with Malahide GC runners up to Clontarf GC. We hope that Malahide GC can go one better this year, and bring home that oh so coveted pennant. Michael Lenihan is the manager of this team. Good luck to Michael and his team in this competition.
