2013 May - Juvenile News

(22 May 2013)

The Juvenile and Cadet sections held their AGM’s in the main clubhouse on March the 24th for the first time in many years.  There was an excellent turnout from both sections and the Committee would like to thank all those who attended. Any new Juvenile member who could not make the AGM can collect their GUI/ILGU card from the office. Any queries relating to GUI/ILGU cards for Juveniles should be directed to the main office and not the Juvenile Committee or the Professional shop.

March saw the end of a very successful winter coaching programme run by Christian Hickey, Mary Rock, and our Professional John Murray. This programme ran over a 6 month period and has really helped in the development of some of our younger Juveniles both male and female alike. We have already witnessed the benefit of this in the results this year in both team competitions and on an Individual basis. We intend to keep this programme going, starting again in October this year with some new players. We would also like to thank the following people for their help over the course of the coaching: Alastair Sutton, Andrew Keating, Paul Hickey, Andrew Conlon, Conor Sutton and Philip Smith.

We had a reasonable turnout for our two Easter Competitions. We would ask that Juveniles arrive at least 20 minutes before your tee-time and, if you cannot make your tee time for whatever reason, please contact the Professional Shop on 01 8460002 and they will let the Starters know. We have continued to add lines to the end of the timesheet this year for the younger Juvenile Girls and Boys (11 and 12 years of age) to play 9 holes from the Red Tees. We would ask that all Juveniles come and play in the competitions whether 18 holes or 9 holes. The next Juvenile Competition takes place on Thursday 6th of June.

In April we had the Fred Daly qualifying in Beaverstown GC and Malahide qualified alongside the Island. A big well done to the team Managers Paul Hickey, Christian Hickey and Lawrence Craddock and to the team of Andrew Conlon, Conor Sutton, Philip Smith, AJ McCabe, Fintan O Connor, Karl Kennedy and Robert Byrne. The next round was played on Saturday the 27th of April with Malahide having 3 matches at home and 4 away in the Island. Unfortunately we lost 5-2 on the day but with all games played off scratch there was some excellent performances most notably from Sean Costello in the Island and Daniel Murphy and AJ McCabe in Malahide. The next team golf for the Juveniles will be the Leinster U15s Inter Club Matchplay in May followed by the Irish Junior Foursomes in June.

Finally we would like to point out to all Juveniles that with the summer approaching and, hopefully, more of you playing golf there are some rules that you need to remember:

1. With the exception of Juvenile Competition days, Juveniles must give way on the golf course.

2. Juveniles who bring Guests to play in Malahide GC must ensure that the guest pays his or her green fee before playing on the course or using the practice facilities.

3. All Juveniles aged 14 and under must vacate the golf course and club facilities by 7pm unless accompanied by an adult member.

4. All juveniles aged between 15 and 18 must vacate the golf course and club facilities by 8pm unless accompanied by an adult.
