Unfortunately, Malahide were beaten in the Uden Cup Final last Sunday. Trailing 4.2 to 2.2 from the away leg the team did all they could to turn the tie around but were eventually well beaten in the end by an excellent Corrstown team. Congratulations to Team Managers Joe O'Neill and Eamonn O'Reilly and all the team members on their great run in getting to the final.
Congratulations to Pauline and Rachel Duddy who won The Mother and Daughter Competition in the Castle Golf Club yesterday. Well done!
It's 'all to play for' in the second leg of the Uden Cup final against Corrstown at home next Sunday after Malahide secured 2.5 points in the away leg yesterday. After Mick Gaffney and John Muldowney won their match 2&1 to follow Paul Monahan and Philip Ellis's earlier win, 5-2 looked like the probable result as Pat Caulfield and Stephen Hunt were 4 down at the turn. However by the time they got to the 14th tee they had clawed their way back to 2 down. The best of Pat was to come as he single-putted the next 3 greens for a birdie 2 at the 14th from 8 feet, a par 4 at the tough 15th from 10 feet and again from 15 feet for a par on the 16th when it looked like the hole would be lost. After losing the par 3 17th, Stephen pulled off a superb shot from the right hand rough on the 18th hitting a 5 iron over the water into 15 feet and duly two-putted to secure a halved match which could prove vital by the time the tie concludes. However at 4.5 to 2.5 down we still face an uphill challenge so please come out in numbers on Sunday to support the team in their final push for glory.

Congratulations to our Senior Cup team who had an excellent win on Saturday morning against a strongly-fancied Ardee team in the Leinster Quarter Finals winning 3-2 in a thrilling finish with Conor Sutton coming out on top in the deciding match on 22nd hole. Unfortunately we were beaten in the Semi Final in the afternoon by The Castle Golf Club who went on to defeat Portmarnock in the final on Sunday. Well done to Darragh Smith and his team on a great performance and one that proves that we are very capable of competing at the highest level.
Malahide's Senior Cup team contest the Leinster Quarter Final against Ardee Golf Club in Hermitage on Saturday morning, 18th August 2012, at 8.40am. If successful, they will go forward to the Semi-Final in the afternoon and hopefully to the Final on Sunday. We would like to wish the team every success and ask as many members as possible to make the short trip down the M50 to offer their support to our top golfers.

It was a case of Snap for Gavin O'Connor and Ciaran Reale who won the Senior and Junior Scratch Cups last weekend in Skerries matching the achievement of Gavin and Aidan Carleton in Beaverstown just a couple of short months ago. Both won their respective events by a single shot in similar circumstances finishing in superb style with a series of birdies when it appeared that their chances had gone. Many congratulations to Gavin and Ciaran on their great achievements.
